PREMIUM 8/30 matches announced, plus G1 full cards! by Stuart - 25 Jul 2008
New Japan's PREMIUM brand will continue to turn heads on August 30th when Jushin Thunder Liger brings juniors together from all over in a series of "PREMIUM.SUPER-J" matches. This is not the singles tournament that was hinted, but perhaps a prelude to one, as it shows just how far Liger's trade routes reach. For example, in one match we will see El Samurai and (Katsushi) TAKEMURA return to New Japan, while we'll also see big names such as Great Sasuke, Tatsuhito Takaiwa, and Shuji Kondo back in the New Japan ring.
PREMIUM, 8/30/08
Tokyo Korakuen Hall
1. PREMIUM.SUPER-J - Ranmyaku: Tiger Mask, El Samurai & Great Sasuke
vs. NOSAWA, MAZADA & TAKEMURA
2. PREMIUM.SUPER-J - Ranbu: Minoru, Mineo Fujita
& GENTARO vs. Ikuto Hidaka
, MIKAMI
& Makoto Oishi
3. PREMIUM.SUPER-J - Sohran: Jushin Thunder Liger & Shuji Kondo
vs. Tatsuhito Takaiwa
& Magnitude Kishiwada
Meanwhile, full cards for the G1 Climax have been announced. Match order remains a mystery, but there are some interesting undercard additions of note to each lineup, such as Liger & AKIRA getting an instant rematch for the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title on the first Sumo Hall show, as their tug-of-war with Minoru & Devitt continues!

CIRCUIT 2008 NEW JAPAN SOUL ~NOVELLO SPARKS~" <--
Manabu Nakanishi's dream of winning just one major singles title remains just that. Perhaps no other wrestler has taken down so many big names without the proper rewards to go with it. It was a similar story today at New Japan's return to the Tsukisamu Green Dome in Sapporo, as Nakanishi took IWGP Heavyweight Champion, Keiji Muto, to his limits, but fell an inch short yet again. Nakanishi was pinned by Muto's moonsault press and now it seems that the G1 Climax winner will be given the next shot at the legend. Makabe & Yano ended what was a fairly torrid tour for GBH by making a successful V2 defense of their IWGP Tag Team Title against RISE's Giant Bernard & Rick Fuller. You'll remember it was Bernard and his former partner, Travis Tomko, that the GBH villains took the belts from, and the new arrival Fuller has made a good first impression. However, he suffered his first loss today, falling to Yano's Oni Koroshi. Another RISE pair, Nakamura & Goto, expressed interest in challenging their fellow young generation members for the belts. RISE did pick up gold elsewhere though, as Minoru & Prince Devitt avenged their February loss to Legend's Jushin Thunder Liger & AKIRA to regain the IWGP Jr. Tag Team Title. Their first reign was cut short, but Devitt's cradle on AKIRA today meant new champions were crowned and revenge was achieved.

Four new wrestlers added to Unno show by Stuart - 14 Jul 2008
Former Heisei Ishingun members, Shiro Koshinaka and Kengo Kimura, are two of four new wrestlers added to Red Shoe Unno's 20th anniversary show at Korakuen Hall on August 26th. They are joined by DRAGON GATE's Don Fujii and Masaaki Mochizuki, and of course the previously announced original Tiger Mask and Genichiro Tenryu. Koshinaka and Kimura plan a HI revival on the show, while Unno is hoping Fujii & Mochi will head to a New Japan show and provoke some opponents into facing them.

Tomohiro Ishii today became the third member of GBH after current IWGP Tag Team Champions, Togi Makabe and Toru Yano, to wrestle the WEW Heavyweight Title away from the Apache Army. Ishii avenged a previous loss to Mammoth Sasaki at today's LOCK UP show, pinning the big man after 18 1/2 minutes in an intense match. Despite no longer formally being a brand of New Japan, every match on today's show featured a NJ regular, the big one seeing Choshu and Onita team up and not get along - costing their team the victory.

"Now a word about our sponsors"... by Stuart - 11 Jul 2008
I don't often do this, as SSS has always been a straightforward no nonsense site, but these people/places help keep it going. SSS is supported by some advertising - the Google AdSense banner you see, but also several long-term sponsors.
CD Japan is an Asian entertainment site that sells all sorts of Japanese popular culture stuff, like anime, music, and yes... fighting/pro wrestling. Every time someone clicks through the banner and buys something, I get a small percentage (so far, it hasn't worked out too well, but persistence and all that).
Tokyo Amusement is another Japanese entertainment site, selling all sorts of cool pro wrestling and fighting stuff, such as t-shirts, figures, watches and masks. It also has sections for toys/anime, video games, and electronics, so go and check that out.
IVP Videos has for some time been the distributor of puroresu DVDs to western fans that this site has supported. There used to be another site, but the owner did a disappearing act and left many buyers out of pocket, something I personally refused to tolerate, so tore down his banner immediately. IVP Videos has since taken over that spot and I can safely say is reputable and reliable, not to mention really great value for money. Recent shows for as cheap as
US$2.99!
All of these sites help keep the network running, so please support them by at least having a peek and seeing if anything interests you.
G1 Climax lineups! by Stuart - 11 Jul 2008
The 2008 G1 Climax will truly be survival of the fittest, as not only will there be group stage matches on the final day, but only two of these superstars, champions, legends, and so on, will be able to make the final stages. Only the block winners can advance this year, and they will go straight to the final on 8/17 (which was today announced as a live PPV). It is a jam packed lineup this year, with promising matches aplenty. Big matches involving Kurt Angle and AJ Styles of TNA Wrestling just add the iceing to the cake of what is surely the best looking G1 Climax on paper since 2004.
