  • The "G1 TAG LEAGUE 2001" tour was an important one for the junior heavyweights, as it marked the return of a junior tag league concept. The only previous time this had happened was in 1994, but the concept was never followed up on, unlike the heavyweight version. However, from 11/16/01 to 11/25/01, the G1 Jr. Tag League took place, featuring six teams and many good matches. Jushin Thunder Liger & El Samurai won the tournament, defeating IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions, Jado & Gedo, in the final. One day after the final, New Japan held a transition show between the junior and heavyweight tag leagues, running a G1 Jr. 6 Man Tag Team Tournament at Fujimi Municipal Citizen Gymnasium. Four teams waged war, with Minoru Tanaka's trios team coming out as winners.

G1 Jr. 6 Man Tag Team Tournament (11/26/01)

Semi Final: Minoru Tanaka, Masayuki Naruse & Masahito Kakihara beat Kendo Kashin, Katsuyori Shibata & Wataru Inoue (13:49) when Tanaka used the Minoru Special II on Shibata.
Semi Final: Jado, Gedo & GOKU-DO beat Jushin Thunder Liger, El Samurai & Gran Naniwa (8:56) when Gedo used the Gedo clutch on Samurai.
Final: Minoru Tanaka, Masayuki Naruse & Masahito Kakihara beat Jado, Gedo & GOKU-DO (16:44) when Kakihara used a cross armbreaker on GOKU-DO.
