Profile:
A legitimate tough man, Don Frye has a background in Greco-Roman wrestling, judo, and other combat forms. He initially made a name for himself in UFC, winning various tournaments and defeating big name fighters. He entered the pro wrestling world in 1997, making New Japan a regular stop from August of that year. He went on a rampage, defeating many native stars and becoming one of the most despised rulebreakers in New Japan history. He is the only man to have defeated Naoya Ogawa more than once, with two wins over the titan, including the final win before Ogawa's multi-year unbeaten streak in April, 1998, at the Tokyo Dome show. Their match on that show determined who would face Antonio Inoki in the main event, Frye winning the honour of being Inoki's retirement opponent. Before a record-breaking crowd of 70,000 fans, Frye fell to the mighty Inoki, but he had made a name for himself. His rampage continued with more victories, which gained him the right to challenge Keiji Muto for the IWGP Heavyweight Title in April, 1999. After his close loss to Muto, he aligned with Masahiro Chono, Muto's nemesis, helping construct Team 2000. After winning the 2001 G1 World, a tournament comprised of only foreigners, he left the company to focus on vale tudo fighting again, going on a winning streak in PRIDE. Frye defines the term "badass", bringing high credentials and a range of combat skills to every match with him. Formerly a diabolical rulebreaker, who once caused the Tokyo Dome rampway to be littered with trash, Frye is now a very popular and respected figure.
