Profile:
Absorbed in sports since childhood, Johnston won local Golden Glove championships. He studied freestyle wrestling, judo, tae kwon do, kickboxing, and other combat forms. He first made a name for himself in UFC with some strong performances, before entering New Japan in September, 1997, his first match a loss to Naoya Ogawa. He continued his UFC feud with Don Frye, the two having some heated scuffles, including an intense match at the Tokyo Dome in January, 1999. In April, 2000, he became the fifth member of Yuji Nagata's Fighting Club G-EGGS, a group of wrestlers with sporting backgrounds. Whenever he toured with New Japan, he remained closely aligned to Nagata, assisting he and the New Japan army against Team 2000. Shortly after G-EGGS disbanded, tragedy struck, when while seconding Kazuyuki Fujita a K-1 show in August, 2001, he suffered a stroke. He was unable to speak or move his arms and legs, but has since made incredible progress and is being deemed a miracle. He made an emotional return to New Japan at the Tokyo Dome in January, 2003, thanking fans during a microphone performance. Although he may never be able to fight again, Brian is fortunate enough to have made a good recovery. Good luck from all of your fans Brian!
